Here are some fun and creative ways to clean and improve the efficiency of your home:

  • Rain Gutters as Shelving. Mount pre-painted roof gutters on walls in kids’ rooms to display books and small toys.
  • Marker Caddy. Cover a shoe box in attractive wrapping paper and fill with empty toilet paper rolls set on end. Place markers and pens in the rolls.
  • Get Creative with Shoe Organizers. Ones that hang on closet doors can also store kitchen accessories, bathroom items, and workshop tools.
  • Gift Wrapping Station. Buy an unfinished low stool. Paint it a fun color, and mount three caster wheels on the seat. Turn it upside down and store gift wrap rolls in the center, hang tissue and folded wrap on the crossbars, bags and ribbon spools on the legs.
  • Hang a Tennis Racket on the Wall for an Earring Caddy.
  • Hang Jeans on Shower Hooks. Takes up some closet space but frees up all that space jeans take up on shelves and in drawers.
  • Pant Hangers for Boots. Clip each pair of boots to a pant hanger and place on rail mounted off your closet floor.
  • Storage for Heels. Buy decorative ceiling molding and cut into lengths to fit two or three pairs of shoes hanging from their heels. Paint as many lengths of molding as you need and nail to the wall.
  • Pull Your Refrigerator an Inch from the Wall. Reduce energy usage up to 40%.
  • Light Hard-to-Reach Candles with a Strand of Uncooked Spaghetti.
Make Your House Smell Wonderful. Put two caps of vanilla extract in a baking cup, place in 300-degree oven for one hour.
  • Sprinkle Talcum Powder to Silence Squeaky Hardwood Floors.
  • Fruit Squeezer Tongs. Use kitchen tongs to get more juice out of lemons, limes, and oranges. Cut fruit in half, place sideways between prongs, and squeeze into pitcher. The inner lip on metal tongs helps keep fruit in place.
  • Glue a Round Magnet to the End of Your Hammer Handle. Keeps nails handy.
  • Hold Nails with a Comb. Keeps your fingers out of the way.
  • Clean a Toilet with Coke. Pour around the bowl, leave for a while, flush clean.
  • Find Tiny Objects with a Stocking and a Vacuum. Take an old stocking and secure it with a rubber band to the end of your vacuum hose. Run the vacuum and sweep the hose where the object may be. Keep checking stocking with vacuum still running until object appears on the stocking.
  • Paint Brush Splatter Shield. Cut a slit in a plastic coffee can lid big enough to fit the part of the paint brush with the bristles. Splatter won’t hit your hand.
